WHAT IS IT
Level Five and the CUPA have partnered together to create the Credit Union Professional of the year award. The award is designed to recognize Credit Union Professionals who exemplify the high standards of leadership and service to Credit Unions, their owners, and the communities, to which all CUPA professionals aspire.
The recipient of the award will receive:
- An individual award to recognition to proudly display in their office
- Their name inscribed on a plaque that will be displayed at Level Five
- A $1,000 cash prize
- A matching $1,000 donation made on their behalf to the Credit Union Charitable Foundation
- A letter of recognition for their achievement
WHO QUALIFIES?
All active members of CUPA in good standing, who are currently employed by a credit union or affiliated association, in a professional capacity.
WHO SHOULD WE NOMINATE?
The ideal candidate for the Professional of the Year award will demonstrate high standards of leadership within their credit union, the credit union system, and/or their community. The successful candidate will be selected, keeping in mind the mission statement of the Credit Union Professionals’ Association, and the contributions of the individual to better those around them. If you know someone that you feel deserves recognition for their efforts we invite you to download and submit the Nomination form.
NOMINATON PROCEDURES
- Identify a professional who you feel is deserving of this prestigious award
- Submit their name along with a description of what makes this nominee a candidate. Please provide any supporting documentation that will help the selection committee with their decision. Documentation could include a letter from a member acknowledging superior service, community involvement information, peer or staff input, or any other information you feel is important.
- Complete the attached nomination form.
- The selection committee will then review all nominations, seek additional information if required and then select the successful recipient.
- The winner will be presented with the award by the President of the CUPA Board, and Level Five at the annual CUPA conference banquet.

2011 Professional of the Year:
Michael A. Powis
Michael A. Powis, Commercial Lending Manager at Motor City Community Credit Union, was named Credit Union Professional of the Year at the 2011 CUPA conference. Chosen from over 170 credit unions in Ontario, this is the first time the award has gone to an individual went of London.
Michael is quoted as saying,
"While this award recognizes one individual, there is no doubt in my mind that it is a team award. Our team of Commercial lenders and staff at MCCCU is second to none. They all demonstrate day in and day out the highest level of financial professionalism and caring for our great community here in Windsor... Our success is their success."
